Mother Mathews has more punishment in store for her prideful novices, beginning with a hard and fast tawsing on their sore, sinful bottoms. Facing each other, the two young nuns say their prayers between strokes of the tawse, begging forgiveness amidst cries of painful agony. Mother Superior is encouraged by their piety, but decides more pain is needed to finally drive out the devil.
